Hi, I'm Francis  Tessier-Burns

I'm a freelance journalist and photographer based in Sǫǫ̀mba k’è (Yellowknife). I've called the North home since 2019 and have reported on communities across Denendeh.

I write about northerners first and foremost, from those bearing the brunt of climate change to others taking to the skies

I've covered handgames in a pandemic, spoken with Sixties Scoop survivors, reported on RCMP use of force, and interviewed outspoken NWT politicians.

I've produced radio features on students learning traditional skills, caribou hunt monitoring, and an entire show on Truth and Reconciliation.

My photography has been included in the Far North Photo Festival

Before moving to the North, I wrote for The Review newspaper about everything from gaps in home care to passing on the family farm.

I'm a graduate of the University of King's College Bachelor of Journalism Honours program, and interned with Up Here magazine.

In my spare time, I'm either camping in the NWT's backcountry, playing pond hockey, or setting up one of my 100 board games.
